Wild Salmon Festival 2013

Pictures of the 2012 Wild Salmon Festival

The Wild Salmon Festival is held annually to support  local salmon restoration initiatives and awareness activities of the Middle Shuswap Wild Salmon Society.

The Wild Salmon that spawn in the streams surrounding Lumby are in danger and being threatened. At one time the creeks were full of many different varieties of this precious natural resource. Now the numbers are down to a minimum and some wild species are in serious depletion. The Coho Salmon are now listed as an endangered species! Many of the Sockeye strains are not far behind. This new annual Community Festival was founded and designed to bring awareness to local issues and create opportunities to help improve the situations. The completion of the much needed fish ladder at Shuswap Falls is a good example of what needs to be done as soon as possible.
